Arts and Humanities

The Coppell Family YMCA Arts & Humanities program offers a noncompetitive environment for young people to study and experience the arts. Through the arts, we promote health, self-expression, teamwork, community building, and family strengthening. The Coppell Family YMCA is making the arts more accessible to the community.

The arts are a perfect vehicle for enhancing the YMCA’s four core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility:

  • The arts give kids a way to mark their identity.
  • The arts use nonverbal parts of the mind and exercise symbolic meanings for expression that kids often have a hard time expressing verbally.
  • The arts let kids use their hands and bodies and minds. They give physical and psychological satisfaction.
  • The arts provide new ways of learning, which is good for students who may have difficulty learning verbally.
  • Arts activities can instill a sense of community or be used to mark significant places, times, and events.
  • The arts can help children deal with anxiety and provide organized activity and rituals in times of uncertainty.
  • The arts articulate life concerns—love, birth, death, pain, mortality, joy. They acknowledge what we care about.
  • The arts access deeper and higher parts of our nature. Through the arts we can access the best of ourselves.

Visual Arts

Children learn how to draw, paint, and sculpt at the Coppell Family YMCA Art Clinics. Through pencil and/or paint, our students will learn shading, the importance of shading, color mixing, and dry brushing techniques. These classes tap into the student’s creative talent while maintiaining the YMCA's core values. Click Here For Arts Class Schedules.

Performing Arts

Our high-energy Performing Arts program is designed to break you out of your shell!  Or put your acting or singing ability to work in drama or musical theatre. Then present your new skills during the Coppell Family YMCA end of week performance! Our instructors are professionally trained with strong backgrounds in Performing Arts. Click Here For Performing Arts Class Schedules.

Dog Training

If your dog could use some good manners, you should consider enrolling him and yourself in an upcoming dog obedience training class at the Coppell Family YMCA.  Obedience training is the foundation a dog needs for a life time of good behavior and social relationships with his family and neighbors.  Most dogs enjoy obedience training and pleasing people.

Class size is limited and you must register in advance at the YMCA Welcome Center.  The cost of the eight-week program is $50 for YMCA Members and $100 for Non-members. Check the website in the future for the next available class.

Babysitting Certification

Are you new to babysitting or looking for a way to expand or polish your skills as a babysitter? There are certain basic abilities and knowledge that every parent wants in a responsible babysitter. While learning from experience is important, there are also a variety of training programs that can prepare you to begin babysitting or help you become a more competent babysitter.

This class is for children ages 11 - 15 year olds. Classes must be cancelled at least one week prior to the start date to be eligible for a partial refund. A $10 processing fee will be applied to all cancellations.

Class Schedule:
Saturday, July 17: 9:00am - 1:00pm
